Frigiliana
Frigiliana is a special village, Frigiliana is a whitewashed village, Frigiliana is a hillside village but above all Frigiliana is a pretty village steeped in history. Situated in the mountain range of the Almijara Sierra, approximately 300 metres above sea level with its irrigation channels, " acequias " serving the steep mountain sides terraces of olive, almond and citrus trees surrounding the village.
The village is the recipient of may awards more recently winning the title " Prettiest village in Andalucia ". It's prosperity and livelihood is owed largely to the produce of local fruit and local agriculture in general. Olives are grown, pressed and sold locally as well as the famous Frigiliana honey famous throughout Spain.
The village really does convey a feeling of bygone Spain, simple and friendly with an abundance of local bakeries, butchers, wine cellars, craft, pottery and ceramic shops etc, not to mention a wide selection of bars and restaurants. There is also a bank with a cash machine and a recently constructed underground car park.
Frigiliana is also part of the Wine Route featuring the major village producers of the region´s famous Malaga wine, it's climate is also outstanding with an average 320 days of sunshine every year !
The old quarter is also well worth walking through with its narrow cobbled streets lined with hanging baskets of bright flowers all year round. Frigiliana, a village simply not to be missed !
